We had the tasting menu but decided to upgrade to the Scallop and Lobster all was absolutely fantastic. We have been here several times and it has never failed to impress, the lobster should ALWAYS be taken, just fantastic. Service fabulous and food outstanding.” - davidmD4794NX
We had overheard someone talk about this restaurant and knowing a Masterchef finalist was at the helm made it an easy selection. We started the evening with their very own Lunan gin and a delightful seaside scramble for me. We were made to feel very welcome by the whole front of house team. We opted for the vegetarian tasting menu including wine pairings and it was exquisite. My favourite dish was the tandoori cauliflower, the seasoning was immense. A really relaxing experience and cannot wait you return.” - Lolaferrola
We went to try out Haar at lunchtime to take advantage of the lunch value menu. Whilst the portions were small, and the sides were extra we were not disappointed as we really did feel we got a real taste of Dean Banks style of cooking as all the set menu items were from the a la carte menu. The Asian fusion with great perfectly cooked Scottish produce brought alive roasted cauliflower and pork belly for the first course and a delicious, but mild Goan curry with trout and a delicious beef dish. The smashed roast potatoes cooked in seaweed were exceptional, great texture and taste and a generous portion, two dishes were enough with the bread to fill out the relatively small dishes.
For my taste the Mizo in the butter to accompany the hot freshly baked corn bread (another extra) was a bit too salty and strong, an option to have the local butter without the Mizo would I feel be welcomed by some clients. The deserts were of a high quality but perhaps not yet Haar’s forte.
The service was friendly and efficient and the atmosphere light and in keeping with its location looking onto the Main Street of St Andrews.
However, as noted by other reviewers the automatic door demanded by the host hotel for its clients brings icy blasts of air into the restaurant- surely with continued negative feedback on this attributable to the hotels demands will change the hotels attitude on this important matter, if not the name of the restaurant will truly be spot on in the winter months.
We will definitely be returning to check out the tasting menu.” -
My wife and I celebrated our Ruby Wedding Anniversary with the six course tasting menu with the lobster signature dish as an extra with the matched wines.
Fab u lous. Well done to Dean and his team.” - davidhT5875TJ
Had a lovely evening here on Saturday celebrating my Husband's Birthday. Had heard good things so we were really looking forward to our visit and were not disappointed.
Opted for the tasting menu with wine pairing and can say each course was perfect, we thoroughly enjoyed every dish. All the front of house team looked after us well. Nice ambience in the restaurant too, fine dining but not stuffy. Just what St Andrews needed! Can't wait to return.” - emma_l144

We arrived sharp and were seated immediately and offered the drinks menu prior to the meal; the staff were attentive without being overbearing. The meal, from the five course tasting series, the Scottish menu, was AMAZING! The butter, sourced locally and made up with a seaweed and sea salt was incredible! Every part of the meal was beautifully presented and the flavours were indescribable. I had never eaten oysters previously - I was nervous to say the least - oh my goodness, it was gorgeous! I could wax lyrical for pages but suffice to say that five stars simply isn’t enough! Thanks to all the staff, particularly Ruari who explained the dishes and Mark who was responsible for the aforesaid butter (he should package it and sell it on the way out!) - a fabulous night - thank you.” - Diddlyididi
A very tasty meal with a great fusion of the best of Scottish produce. The staff were very knowledgeable and we never felt we were under pressure to rush out meal. Another visit is due sometime in the future.” - carolcB6998HC
